PURPOSE AND VISION

WestCASA aims to both facilitate the recovery and healing of victim/survivors of sexual assault and work toward the elimination of sexual violence in society. The service vision is for a world where everyone lives free from the fear of sexual violence.

Western Region Centre Against Sexual Assault (WestCASA)

Who we are:

WestCASA is a community based sexual assault counselling service for victim/survivors of sexual assault, aged 12 years and above.

WestCASA also provides a 24 hour crisis care service in conjunction with the Victorian Sexual Assault Crisis Line (SACL).

We have been operating in the western metropolitan region of Melbourne for the past 31 years. Our main service is located in a Multi Disciplinary Centre along with other agencies responding to sexual assault and family violence. Additional outreach services are located in Footscray, Melton and in the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre

WestCASA is an associate member of the Dhelk Dja and also the Aboriginal Services Network of Wyndham-Hobsons Bay. We are currently developing a Strengthening Culturally Safety Framework and planning a Reconciliation Action Plan with the support of the Cultural Safety Senior Advisor based with VACCA. We hope to have the RAP development begin in 2021.

To achieve this vision, West CASA provides a range of post-trauma and community education services including:

  • Counselling for victims/survivors of sexual assault, their families, partners and friends;
  • Advocacy and referral for victims/survivors of sexual assault;
  • Crisis care for recent victims/survivors of sexual assault in partnership with the Victorian Police Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) from Footscray and Western Health through Sunshine Hospital’s Emergency Department;
  • Telephone support and information;
  • Group work;
  • Secondary and clinical consultation with other professionals working with victims/survivors of sexual assault; and
  • Education and training for the community, professionals, groups and agencies in the Western region.
