If you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, over 18 years of age, living in Victoria or Tasmania and have been separated from family, community and culture we can assist you to find and be reunited with your family, culture and traditional country.
At Link-Up Victoria we understand inter-generational trauma and we can:
- Access and provide you with copies of records about yourself and family
- Organise reunions between Aboriginal people who were adopted, fostered or placed in an institution, with their families, and assist them to reconnect with their culture, communities and traditional country
- Organise counselling that builds self-awareness, safety, wellbeing and resilience
- Run events to mark National Sorry Day and the Anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations.
- Provides cultural healing programs and activities.
We provide support services to the Stolen Generations to find their family and for family to find members who are Stolen Generations.
Our support services are confidential, sensitive and culturally responsive. We can help with:
- Accessing records about separation from family including adoption files, records from children’s homes or other institutions
- Researching family and cultural connections – liaising with Traditional owner groups, interstate Link-Up services, record holders all over Australia
- Obtaining birth, death and marriage certificates
- Tracing and locating family members
- Initiating contact with family members
- Guidance with family issues
- Family research advice
- Providing cultural advice and information
- Reunions
- Yarning Up (Counseling)
- Referrals to appropriate services
- Advocacy
